Technical Mentors Needed - Can you help build an app for that?

When we heard about Technovation and that the University of Calgary, Faculty of Science was coordinating the Calgary Region - we had to spread the news!

The Tehnovation 2018 Challenge is designed to spark female student's (aged 10-18) interest in technology and specifically - solving a community problem by building a mobile app! Combine identifying a problem, creating a business plan and executing on developing an app to solve that problem not only creates technical exposure but business and entrepreneurship skills as well. What could be more near and dear to our community here at YYC Tech Gives?

That's why we are hoping to spread the word among our members and far and wide in the Calgary Tech Community, as the University is currently in need of Technical Mentors in Android or IOS app development. The University works to find qualified mentors and match them with each team looking to participate.

The teams ultimately work towards a pitch event that will be held in Calgary on May 5th of this year. Teams demo their app and pitch their business plans to a panel of experts, competing for prizes as well as a chance to place at the Technovation World Pitch event in San Francisco in July/August of 2018!

There is a significant time commitment from a mentoring perspective, but the rewards are truly great. Thanks for considering helping to build, spark and develop interest in technology in Calgary - this is where our industry growth will continue to sprout from.

If you are able to provide your expertise please contact Dr. Mea Wang at the University of Calgary for all the details.

Are you ALL IN?! We'd love to hear about your mentoring journey: info@yyctechgives.org
