SPAM CUP 2023

The SPAM Cup recognizes the team that shows up big, competes hard and embodies the spirit of what YYC Tech Gives is all about. In keeping with the success of last year's efforts to raise food, funds, and time for the Calgary Food Bank, we will be awarding the coveted SPAM Cup trophy to the team that shows up ‘the biggest’. It’s not about which team raises the most food, funds, or time, but rather which team comes together in a big way across all the pillars of giving. We are looking for the most creative ways to support the Food Bank that really go above and beyond to engage staff and the community to make a difference.

From November 6th until December 6th, you will have the opportunity to raise as much time (volunteer hours), food (cereal, canned food, baby formula, pasta sauce), and funds as you can in support of the Calgary Food Bank. Then on December 12th, we will come together at the Calgary Food Bank's 2nd Warehouse (1350 42nd Ave SE) for our traditional SPAM Cup Food Sorting Competition for a chance to take the lead with extra points, and to announce who this year’s award winners are as we present the YYC Tech Gives Fundraising total.  Please click "Spam Cup 2023 Fundraising" below to set up your team to raise funds for the Food Bank on Canada Helps.

2023
Competition

Like SPAM Cup 2022, this year's SPAM Cup will stretch across The Calgary Food Bank’s Three pillars of giving: Time, Money, and Food from Monday, November 6th through Wednesday, December 6th.

In focusing on these three pillars, YYC Tech Gives participants will be scored on a points system that will offer points that correspond with each initiative, and the SPAM cup will be awarded on December 12th to the Company that scores the highest overall points. We will wrap up the month-long campaign in true SPAM Cup style with a food sorting competition at the Calgary Food Bank's 2nd Warehouse (1350 42nd Ave SE) for a chance to win extra points and take the lead in the campaign.

The awards

The Golden Clock award will be given to the team that can accumulate the most volunteer hours from now until December 6th.  This year we are hoping to engage you, your colleagues, your friends, and family to help support the Calgary Food Bank with the gift of time. Whether you come down alone, bring a group from your office, or engage your family and friends to support - when you sign up and mark them as YYC Tech Gives volunteers and track all the hours towards your team. To sign up to volunteer please visit our website or reach out to our volunteer resource team by email if you have any questions.

Please select one member for your team to track your volunteer hours and send them to Anthea Maxwell by end of day on December 8th. If you wish to bank future hours, you may receive points for these as long as you have already committed to volunteer.

The Heavy Lifter Award will go to the team that can accumulate the largest weight of food. From November 6th until December 6th, we challenge you and your team to see how many food items you can collect. All items will need to be dropped off at the Calgary Food Bank's main warehouse, 5000 11 Street SE (Door 7).

Traditionally the SPAM Cup recognizes the team that shows up, competes hard and embodies the spirit of what YYC Tech Gives is all about. The coveted trophy will be awarded to the team that shows up ‘big’. It’s not about who raises the most food items, funds, or time, but rather who comes together in a big way across all the pillars of giving. We are looking for the most creative ways that teams support the Food Bank and really go above and beyond to engage their staff and the community to make a difference. The SPAM Cup winner will be announced on December 12th at the Food Sorting Competition.
